Fredericksburg is an incorporated city and the county seat of Gillespie County. The 2020 Census counted 10,875 residents, and 2025 estimates run from about 11,020 to 11,288. Marktplatz and historic Main Street form the tourism and civic core. The National Register historic district boundary puts that core roughly between Schubert Street to the north, Creek Street to the south, Acorn Street to the west and Elk Street to the east.

NOAA's storm records include verified hail and wind events at the Fredericksburg reporting point, including tennis ball size hail and a wind event that tore a tin roof off a metal building. That reporting point, "FREDERICKSBURG ARPT," is Fredericksburg Airport, also known as Gillespie County Airport or KT82. Twenty registered homeowners associations operate in Gillespie County, mostly governing the newer subdivisions built as the town grew beyond its historic core. They tend to be less restrictive than HOAs in major metro areas, focusing on basic maintenance and shared amenities rather than extensive architectural controls.

A local general contractor's service-area page names Boot Ranch and Frieden as having specific HOA guidelines and architectural standards. Post Oak Lakes, The Preserve at Walnut Springs and Admiral Heights each have their own HOA rules or architectural guidelines.

The Fredericksburg Historic District is a separate matter. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places on October 14, 1970, and covers 367 contributing buildings. Properties near Marktplatz or Main Street need Historic Review Board approval, a very different process from private HOA architectural review. Check with your HOA or the Historic Review Board before a roof replacement goes ahead.
