Stone Oak Is Home Turf

Top Choice Roofing and Construction is based just north of Stone Oak off the US-281 corridor, in the 78260 zip code. A crew leaving the shop reaches the US-281 and Loop 1604 crossroads in minutes. That crossroads defines Stone Oak: an unincorporated master-planned district of far north San Antonio with roughly 40,000 or more residents, built out from the 1990s through new construction today. Of all the area pages on this site, Stone Oak is the closest to the shop. When we talk about home turf, this is what we mean.

Roofs in Stone Oak Are Aging Out

Stone Oak was built out from the 1990s through the 2000s, with newer construction continuing today. That means the oldest roofs in the district are now 25 to 35 years old, at or past the designed service life of a typical residential roof. These are not a handful of homes. Stone Oak spans from roughly 1,600 square foot starter homes to 4,000, 5,300 square foot and larger estates, and the roofing needs run the same range.

The community map tells the story. Sonterra is the largest and most established gated section, built around a private country club. The Heights at Stone Oak is a newer gated, higher-end community. Champions Ridge and Champions Estates are luxury estate-lot enclaves, as are Greystone and The Overlook. Hills of Stone Oak and Las Lomas sit in the mid-market range. Stone Oak Heights is an older section with smaller lots. Each of these communities has its own roof ages, its own lot sizes, and its own set of homes now due for inspection or replacement.

HOA and Architectural Review

Many Stone Oak communities are HOA-governed, with dues ranging from roughly $300 to $3,000 or more per year. Gated sections commonly involve an architectural review process before exterior work can begin. When a community requires it, Top Choice Roofing handles the HOA paperwork and the color and material approval submissions on the homeowner's behalf. Not every Stone Oak community requires this, and we do not assume one does until we check. If your section does, we manage the process from start to finish so the job does not stall waiting on a committee.

NOAA Storm Events Database

Hail Keeps Finding Stone Oak

These are not marketing claims. They are federal weather records from the NOAA Storm Events Database for Bexar County, and they document hail hitting the Stone Oak section of San Antonio in five separate years:

1.00 inch

April 25, 2016

Wilderness Oak and Hardy Oak Blvd, reported as the Stone Oak section of San Antonio.

1.50 inch

May 27, 2020

Between Stone Oak and Timberwood Park. The same storm dropped 2.00 inch hail near Loop 1604 and NW Military Dr.

1.00 inch

April 12, 2022

In the Stone Oak section. The same day produced hail up to 2.00 inches at TPC Pkwy and Bulverde Green.

1.00 inch

April 28, 2023

In the Stone Oak section.

1.00 inch

April 20, 2024

At Hardy Oak Blvd and Stone Oak Pkwy, with 1.25 inch hail near US-281 and Overlook Pkwy. Neighboring Timberwood Park saw 1.75 inch hail the same day.

Bexar County Context

For Bexar County context, two larger hail events appear in the same federal database but did not strike Stone Oak itself. The April 12, 2016 storm produced 4.5 inch hail in northwestern San Antonio, tied for the largest hailstone ever recorded in the area. A May 3, 2021 storm produced hail up to 5.5 inches on the east side of the county. Both are county events, not Stone Oak events, and we attribute them that way.

What the Stone Oak records show is a pattern: five hail-producing storms in nine years, several along the same Hardy Oak and Stone Oak Parkway corridors. If your roof is 20 or 30 years old, it has likely weathered several of these storms already.

Track Record

Recent Work in Stone Oak

Our job records show residential roofing projects completed across the 78258 zip code between October 2025 and spring 2026. The work took place in several Stone Oak street areas, including the Mountain Cove, Sun Mountain, Sable Heights, and Mesa Loop areas. The mix of work included one roof repair, one new roof installation, and one homeowner-funded project, all closed. An additional insurance-approved roofing job is currently in the pipeline. All of these were residential.

That mix matters in hail country. It means we work both sides of the process: the retail path, where a homeowner funds a replacement directly, and the insurance path, where an approved claim drives the scope. If you are weighing which path applies to your roof, we can inspect it and tell you what we see before you decide.
